It has been over 60 days since Hurricane Maria left Puerto Rico devastated. There are still 18 municipalities without any power from the PR Electric Power Authority – nearly 25% of the island. Almost all of these municipalities are located in the central-mountain regions and the eastern coast. We are focused on these affected families and want to provide access to home-made meals, so we have partnered with a local hardware store to bring them portable two-burner gas stoves.

The stove will have a dual impact in their livelihoods. There are currently several health advisories regarding contaminated water. It will give these families an opportunity to make water potable by boiling it. Also, it will provide a way to ensure they can cook their meals in a regular basis. The simple act of cooking with family and neighbors is a small but meaningful achievement in the path to recovery.

For every $103.53 raised, one family in need will have the opportunity to receive a two-burner gas stove and its installation kit (regulator and tubes) and a new, 17 lbs. of propane gas tank, which ensures that the stoves are operational for several weeks.

The ConnectRelief team is dedicated to bringing together people affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria with relief efforts through our virtual platform. Our purpose is to provide individuals and organizations interested in offering aid a broad database on the specific needs of communities, shelters and nonprofit organizations. This data is easily accessible through our website www.connectrelief.com.
